Organisation: Sunlight films

Explanation of processes:
Shot on a mixture of digital video cameras over a three week period. Edited in Final Cut Pro X and streamed on Vimeo

Explanation of criteria:
This film is a collaboration of myself as the film-maker, Jason Porthouse, friend and editor and the people who work at John Boyd textiles. I created the film to show them at work, and how their roles within the organisation fit together to create the wonderful product that is the horse-hair fabric. The workers were invited to describe their roles in short sentences, which were written out in long hand, and ultimately spoken by the individuals and recorded, providing a narrative for the film. These are people with a deep connection to the product and in many cases, they have followed other members of their families into the business. Shyness was a major issue as none of them had been recorded before. Despite a slight stiffness to the voices in some cases, I think their presence adds an extra dimension to the film, both as a marketing tool for John Boyd, but also as an historical record of the process itself.

Explanation of connection:
John Boyd textiles has been producing fabric for over a 100 years in Castle Cary, a mere stones throw from Shepton Mallet. As a film-maker and Photographer, I have been based in Somerset for the greater part of my life.
