But if you keep an open mind, you may still find little cafes tucked away in hidden corners, opening their doors to new customers and eager to remain fiercely independent & serving the community against all the odds. In just such a cafe, I met Dolly and her two friends as they shared a morning coffee and "put the worlds to rights, in their own way."

Yet less than a century ago, they were laying the roads, constructing the factories and helping build the infrastructure of today's modern society.
In the spirit of times passed, the steam lorry was once again hauling 6 Tons of timber across the Mendips to the Somerset Steam Spectacular, a local rally which aims to promote vintage transportation, while raising funds for charity and inspiring a new generation of enthusiasts, possibly even altering their perceptions of modern transportation.

As if they were invisible, the work of Happy Landings Animal Shelter goes largely unnoticed. Yet they care for and re-house dozens of animals every year from their small sanctuary on the outskirts of Shepton Mallet. But this year's recession has hit them badly and much needed donations have all but dried up in the economic downturn. Yet, compassionately, their doors remain open to any animal that needs their help.
Manager, Lyn Southgate explains the difficulties of existing on a tight budget, and why more funding is desperately needed if this sanctuary for abandoned and injured animals is to survive.

This work shows new points of view. My aim was to show the subject from an angle not often considered, and give the animal an impression of size, stature and magnitude not normally associated with a 6 week old foal. Also the curiosity coupled with nervousness on the animals face gives a fleeting impression of an unknown culture; what was this animal thinking as I took the image, was it looking at me, or its own reflection ?

This image covers new approaches to arts and the world. It was taken after a storm during early September 2010 over Ham Hill. The rain was torrential and had driven me to take cover in the woods. The storm broke with a number of loud thunder claps and then, out of the blue, it was gone, leaving the sun peaking through the storm clouds. I gave this image a black and white finish to bring out the texture of the dark stormy sky against the warming of the sun and clear blue that followed.

This image covers unusual venues, unknown cultures and new points of view. The daisies in the image formed a large carpet across an old quarry floor. A location where people had once used explosives to violently claw materials from the earth, now sat in peace and tranquilly. The daises gave a grace and serenity to the site. Once at their level I found myself looking up at the world. The standing stones giving a lasting impression of the men who had dug the quarry, and the blue sky beyond mimicking the passage of time the quarry had seen.

The Language Lab Project by Kid Carpet

The comedy performance lecture is a relatively new artistic form and The Language Lab Project is a departure and development of my artistic output.
As Kid Carpet I have been making albums and performing internationally as an electro-punk musician for seven years and I've just completed (July-September) an artist residency at Knowle West Media Centre in Bristol, where I've been researching and developing the Language Lab's potential audiences and artforms. This has culminated in performances at Bristol Old Vic, KWMC, a folk music and storytelling event and in an abandoned shop for a piece separately commissioned during the residency period for the Desperate Men theatre companies Festival of Desperation.
It's both comforting and unsettling to hear the language and words we know so instinctively becoming unhinged and regurgitated.
The Language Lab's results are absurd, occasionally poignant and generally quite hilarious.
Please follow the link to see video footage from a performance at KWMC. More videos will be added shortly.

This Trailer and Sample gives a hint toward the full live experience of a 40 minute live scored documentary.

The documentary explores the philosophy of the Tri Hita Karana which promotes the harmonised connection between, human and human, human and environment and, human and spirituality or god.

It focuses on the disregard for this philosophy and shows how the loss of connection between human environment and spirituality has lead to the loss of cultural values and a sustainable way of life.

In terms of originality and innovation, I see this film as a new hybrid of short fiction and music video. Unlike many short films, the music and the story are tangled together, inseparable. In fact, A Cat Online is basically a mini-musical.

In terms of clarity... I hope the plot makes sense!

It was fairly unusual in that the visuals were completed first with visual beats and rhythms and then the soundtrack was made to fit this, rather than the other way round. There was a divide between the animator and sound designer too as they both worked independently...

I produced a series of hand drawn illustrations featuring local businesses to produce an original, comical and engaging animation. The animation was created to promote a local music festival in an innovative way.

Further to the production of the artwork and the storyboard I developed a series of posters and flyers to promote the festival. The animation was projected to fill a 40 foot wall outside of the festival venue. The size of the animation and the sound effects that carried through the town drew a lot of attention and interest in the animation and the festival. The animation was also promoted on facebook.

Based on the success of the animation and the festival numerous local businesses have expressed an interest in being part of future animations to advertise their business.

It is evident that people have a intimacy with the planet, and I wanted to represent this using people in an entirely natural environment where both elements of the landscape correspond with the human form. To portray this connection I used fashion photography to make the image not only beautiful, but styled so the fabrics complimented the scenery, the sea was a perfect location for this and I have used the theme of the sea and rocks to connect the separate photographs into a triptych; all the while accentuating the connection between people and the world.
